Overview

This recorded webinar provides an insightful exploration of the complex relationship between autism and sleep. Designed for sleep professionals, this practical session delves into why autistic children often experience sleep challenges and equips you with strategies to support neurodivergent families. With a focus on evidence-based approaches, the session offers tools and techniques to address anxiety, use visual supports, and navigate the unique needs of children with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). The session balances theory with actionable tips, making it accessible and engaging for all participants.


Aim & learning outcomes

The aim of this session is to enhance your understanding of autism and sleep by examining common challenges and practical strategies. We cover why sleep difficulties occur, how anxiety and PDA affect sleep, and effective ways to support autistic children using tailored approaches like visual aids.


By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Understand why autistic children may struggle with sleep and identify contributing factors.

  • Explore the role of anxiety in sleep difficulties and its impact on neurodivergent children.

  • Learn how to implement visual supports to promote a consistent and calming sleep routine.

More about Lindsey Clark.

Lindsey is a certified child and baby sleep consultant, qualified primary school teacher, and mum of two. With nearly 20 years of experience working with children and families, her background includes roles as a teacher and deputy head, where she gained extensive training in Child Psychology, Attachment Theory, Infant Mental Health, and Special Educational Needs.


Lindsey’s passion lies in supporting families of autistic children and those with additional needs. Having witnessed the profound impact of poor sleep on children’s academic progress and mental health during her teaching career, she recognised a significant gap in tailored support for these families. This inspired her to become a certified autism and anxiety sleep specialist, equipping her to create bespoke solutions for children with more complex needs.


Her mission is to help families overcome sleep challenges, ensuring every child—and parent—can thrive with the restorative sleep they deserve.
